Many people have no idea how badly people struggle with their ailments, I was once as ignorant as anyone else.
My personal experience has increased my level of awareness and compassion toward others...no one should have to learn the hard way but some of us are not capable of imagining life in someone else's shoes.
When we find the ability to imagine life in someone else's less fortunate shoes it can actually increase our appreciation for our own lives.
I don't think any of us really wants sympathy or people to feel sorry for us but I can say from my point of view compassion and an attempt at understanding what others go through is a welcome attitude.
An interview with me aired today and maybe some awareness can be passed along. I was thrilled to see two hours of footage edited to include statements I made about seeking other recovered survivors for reassurance that things can be different from the dismal feelings at the beginning of post stroke. It was also nice to see comments made toward a young survivor being an inspiration to the rest of us...reassurance. As time goes by and although I am not completely healed I see that maybe I might be a source of reassurance to others that I was looking for myself.

Its real easy to get self consumed in what has happened to us but passing information along to others with hopes they may avoid worse case scenarios and passing along reassurances that things change has enlightened me that its OK if others have no idea about me but they should have some idea about these other things for themselves and others in their lives.
